Nursery Plants will have it Made in the Shade!

ATA’s long-anticipated Native Plant Nursery in Kamilonui Valley is nearing completion—marking a major step forward in the reforestation of the Kuli`ou`ou watershed. ATA’s dedicated field crew and volunteers have been working tirelessly building a sturdy shadehouse, laying gravel and installing a retaining wall. Designed to protect seedlings from harsh sun and strong winds, the new structure will provide the ideal environment to propagate hundreds of native plant species.

Next up: Benches to support the new seedlings; grading for a new storage container; improvements for plant transport; and installing an irrigation system. Once operational, the nursery will be a hub for restoration and community education—empowering people to help heal the land.

Mahalo to Kela Construction, ATA’s core volunteers, the Garden Club of Honolulu and the Kaulunani Community and Urban Forestry program for making ATA’s vision a reality!
